Crouch End Walks present an opportunity to (re)discover the vast interior of Shoreditch Town Hall, uncovering the stories of the building’s fascinating 150-year history.
Built in 1865 and with a legacy as one of the grandest Vestry Halls in London, this magnificent Grade II listed building houses the Assembly Hall - the only larger music hall auditorium to survive two World Wars in Shoreditch - the Victorian Council Chamber, Committee Rooms, and The Ditch: a warren of atmospheric basement rooms, which have been left untouched.
Join us for a tour of this wonderful building, and learn about the ambitious and progressive energy policies of the former Shoreditch Council, the notorious boxing matches held in the Assembly Hall and the events leading up to a community-led renovation in 1997. Also, discover the building’s more recent history and its establishment as a vibrant arts and events space and flagship venue for Hackney since 2012, now welcoming up to 70,000 people through its doors every year.
