This Saturday A Cocoa Butter Club Christmas Show is headed to STH to spread some festive cheer! Mel Lee is part of the amazing line-up – get to know them a bit more below.
Please can you introduce yourself and your artform?
My name is Mel Lee, former Miss Pole Dance Scotland, multi-award winning pole artist and flying pole specialist! I have been performing contortion, pole dance and flying pole for over 7 years and I still love every minute of it . I am forever curious about the amazing potential of the human body – especially in sky high heels! I have recently also started Spanish Web which really pushes me into new territories. I’m at higher heights, learning to spin at high speed and learning how to make it look elegant at the same time.
How did you start performing?
I started performing at university, doing competitions. I realised I loved the element of competition and pushing my body to move in new ways.
When did you join The Cocoa Butter Club?
This spring! I first joined the cast at Mighty Hoopla Festival which was an amazing experience. I had been watching The Cocoa Butter Club for years so it was amazing to grace the stage with them. Since then I have been a part of casts that travel to festivals, perform at members clubs and now the amazing Shoreditch Townhall.
What is your favourite memory from performing with The Cocoa Butter Club?
Dancing at Soho House. The waiter didn’t get the memo not to cross the stage and ended up getting a free lap dance 😂 People often dont realise how far we have to extend our bodies so want to be as up close and personal as possible.
