Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best VR Immersive Work at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, Goliath: Playing with Reality heads to Shoreditch Town Hall.

Through mind-bending animation and heartfelt dialogue, Goliath: Playing with Reality explores the power of gaming communities in this true story of so-called ‘schizophrenia’.

Echo (narrated by Tilda Swinton) guides you through the many realities of Goliath, a man who spent years isolated in psychiatric institutions but finds connection in multiplayer games. Combining heart-felt dialogue, mesmerising visuals and symbolic interactions, journey through multiple worlds to uncover Goliath's poignant story.

What to Expect

Goliath: Playing with Reality is a Virtual Reality animated performance, experienced through a VR headset. When you arrive at your chosen time slot, there will be a 15 minute introduction where you will be set up with a headset and our team will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

You will then be directed to a separate room. The performance is experienced standing up, and you will be required to make minimal movements in a dedicated area around yourself.

If you have an access requirement which means you cannot stand for long periods of time, please get in touch by emailing info@shoreditchtownhall.com. This experience is accessible to wheelchair users.

The experience lasts 25 minutes and is suitable for people who wear glasses. If you would like to take the headset off at any point, you will be able to do so.

The capacity for each time slot is limited to 6 people - you will not need to interact with any of the other audiences members.

Goliath: Playing with Reality was created and produced by Anagram, in co-production with Floréal. Made with the support of Oculus VR for Good; the British Film Institute (BFI) awarding funds from the National Lottery; Creative XR, Digital Catapult and the Arts Council England; CNC; and StoryFutures Academy
