curious directive: Black Sheep

1 November

Wrapping up their London-exclusive run, the multi-award-winning curious directive performed Black Sheep for the final time at Shoreditch Town Hall on Saturday. Made in collaboration with 12 Norfolk farmers and the National Theatre to shine a light on the dilemmas facing generations of farming families in rural Britain today, Black Sheep has recently received rave reviews from The Stage and many more. Town Hall Tea Dance

10 November

A Town Hall favourite, Mr Wonderful is back for an afternoon of groovy moves, tasty cakes, and a warming cuppa as you dance off those winter blues in our stunning Assembly Hall. WOW- Women of the World Festival: WOW presents… An evening with Jordan Stephens and Friends 

15 November

Hosted by musician, writer and broadcaster Jordan Stephens, join WOW at Shoreditch Town Hall for an evening of conversation, performance and a dose of laughter as we dig into what it really means to be a boy or man today. From money and mental health to stereotypes, fatherhood, sex, care, power and vulnerability – nothing’s off-limits. Special guests include Inequality Economist and author Gary Stevenson, tackling the big questions about money and inequality’s impacts on men, poet Sam Browne, radio presenter Roman Kemp with more guests still to be announced. Ministry of Stories: Speak Up Project

18 November

Following their sold-out interactive adventure for families, DreamState, Ministry of Stories are returning to Shoreditch Town Hall as part of their Speak Up Project. Working with students from the Bridge Academy in Hackney, Ministry of Stories have been teaching a group of Year 9 pupils all about speech writing and the spoken word. Shoreditch Town Hall are thrilled to host the students for a day as they deliver their speeches to an invited audience.

Chrysalis: Chrysalis Residency 

10 – 14 November

Supported by Arts Council Funding, Chrysalis by clearwatercollective will be undertaking a research and development project at Shoreditch Town Hall this month. A queer work combining transformative costume, videography, ritual and live sound, Chrysalis is designed to present an authentic representation of male eating disorders through a spiritual lens.

Almeida Theatre: Almeida Rehearsals 

17 – 21 November

The brilliant Almeida Theatre have been producing a diverse range of dramas for over 40 years. As part of our commitment to supporting the artistic community, we’re offering rehearsal space to the team as they perfect their latest productions.

Catch Theatre Re’s final Monthly Training Class of the year. Join Theatre Re to explore Corporeal Mime Technique, and learn the creative process behind the company’s work- including improvisation and composition inspired by the company’s projects. Darkfield Masterclass: Making Immersive Audio Experiences

19  November

Step behind the scenes of DARKFIELD in this interactive masterclass and learn more about how they bring their unique experiences to life. Dive into DARKFIELD’s creative practice, and develop an understanding of immersive audio-based storytelling. You will play with the binaural equipment, whilst exploring ways to place the audience at the centre of an experience and ways to heighten immersion and interactivity. Local Lounge

Local Lounge is back for a new season, and we’ve loved having so many Hackney-based organisations in our building this month making the most out of our Front Room space.

Through Local Lounge, we offer free use of our Front Room space for Hackney-based organisations, charities and not-for-profits to use. Available for meetings, social events, creative workshops, training sessions and more, you can book the space for a one-off event or multiple dates.

Hackney CVS: Shoreditch Park Action Group 

12 November

A local infrastructure organisation, Hackney CVS supports voluntary and community sector groups located in, or service, communities living, working or studying within the London Borough of Hackney. On the 12 November, they will be hosting a meeting in our Front Room space to discuss the health and wellbeing priorities of the Shoreditch Park Neighbourhood Group.

Queertopia Consortium  

17 November

A Local Lounge regular, Queertopia Consortium, is a grassroots community groups providing a safe space for individuals from the LGBTQIA community to gather and connect. They use our Local Lounge to facilitate steering groups and community business forums.
