Assembly Hall

All are invited to this special event to launch the first ever Hackney Dementia Festival!

Dust off your dancing shoes and relive those Tea Dance memories in the magnificently grand surroundings of the Assembly Hall. A Beginners’ Dance Class will cover the basics on a range of styles from the foxtrot and the quickstep to swing and Latin American, all led by former World Latin American Dance Champion, Raymond Root.

Absolutely no previous experience is required, and with music from the aptly-named Super Sarah, you’ll be sure to get into the swing of things in no time!

When you’ve danced your socks off, take a look at stalls presented by Hackney Archives and City and Hackney Alzheimer’s Society.

To book a place, click the book button above, call 020 7739 6176, or simply turn up on the day.

The Bank of Memory by Pauline Chiang

The Memory Bank is an interactive exhibition, supported by Pauline Chiang (Current student at CSM MA Narrative Environments) for up to 30 people. It is a journey to explores our memories, and emotions, aiming at changing negative
perceptions of dementia, by understanding the individuals with dementia may retain feelings associated with events much longer than they retain factual details or visual images of events. If a loved one has challenges with recalling information, we may benefit from understanding the
differences between emotional and event memory.

Join Hackney Archives for a trip back in time with a selection of photographs taken in and around Hackney in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s from RA Gibson’s studio.
