“This is the true power of theatre” - A Younger Theatre

Inspired by the life of Nina Simone, Fringe First award winner Apphia Campbell’s acclaimed solo performance Black Is The Color Of My Voice heads to Shoreditch Town Hall, after sell-out seasons in Shanghai, New York, Edinburgh and at London’s Trafalgar Studios, Wilton’s Music Hall and Crazy Coqs.

Black Is The Color Of My Voice follows a successful jazz singer and civil rights activist who seeks redemption after the untimely death of her father.  She reflects on the journey that took her from a young piano prodigy destined for a life in the service of the church, to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.

Following recent Government updates, we have decided to present all performances of Black Is The Color Of My Voice with distanced seating. This means we will be removing some seats in our auditorium to leave groups of 2, 3 and single seats, in order to allow space between groups. Though seating is unallocated, we will endeavour to seat groups together.

(RE)Connect: Make Your Own Solo Work - Thursday 28 October

Covid-19 Safety Measures

We will be taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of everyone in the building. Whilst at the Town Hall you must abide by all Covid-19 Safety Measures in place, which you can find here.

In the event of a tighter lockdown in October, we have made contingency plans to provide access to a digital version of Black Is The Color Of My Voice to ticket holders.
