Did you know we are a charity? Since its opening in 1866, Shoreditch Town Hall has witnessed everything from Victorian reform and Sylvia Pankhurst’s activism, to vibrant boxing matches, and the electrifying Whirl-Y-Gigs in the 90s. Each era has left its mark on this iconic building to make it the creative venue it is today, and now it’s our turn to care for its future. Click here to find out more and donate

Following the recent sell-out productions of Aci by the River (2024) and In the Realms of Sorrow (2023), the Handel Opera Studio, in collaboration with La Nuova Musica and New English Ballet Theatre, presents Tales of Apollo and Hercules: a brand-new and original Handelian double bill.

Taking place in the grandeur of Shoreditch Town Hall’s grand Assembly Hall, Tales of Apollo and Hercules weaves together two sublime dramatic tales composed at opposite ends of Handel’s life.

Tales of Apollo and Hercules will explore the lives of two tragic and divine half-brothers and recount their quest for love, their battles with choice and anguish, and their acceptance of fate. Much-acclaimed director Thomas Guthrie joins rising-star choreographer Valentino Zucchetti to create a spellbinding evening of mythical and fantastical storytelling through drama and dance. LHF favourites La Nuova Musica, and their conductor David Bates, join a cast of acclaimed soloists for this original Handel production.

Tales of Apollo and Hercules promises to be one of the most original Handel events of 2025 and is expected to sell out, so tickets should be booked early.

Sensory Adapted Performance: Choice of Hercules
Friday 28 March, 1:30pm

The London Handel Festival is presenting a sensory adapted performance of The Choice of Hercules, a short English language opera from their mainstage double bill exploring themes of growing up through music, puppetry, and dance. The performance will offer a relaxed environment in the auditorium and be sensory adapted to support anyone who would benefit from a less formal environment in which to enjoy the performance.

This could include neurodiverse audiences, those living with dementia, people with learning disabilities, Tourettes Syndrome, and families with young children. These performances can also be helpful for people who experience anxiety around sensory stimuli and spatial restrictions, or who suffer from bowel and bladder conditions, as the audience will be free to leave and re-enter the auditorium during the performance.

  • The relaxed and sensory adapted performance will support noise and movement within the auditorium
  • House lights will be left slightly up
  • You are free to leave and re-enter during the performance
  • Extra seats will be left unsold to offer more space to those who need it
  • A separate quiet space will be available for those who need to relax away from the auditorium
  • There will be reduced sound levels and technical adaptations to the performance
  • A story summary will be provided 48h before the performance for patrons to familiarise themselves with the production if they wish
  • The production and any surprising aspects of the story will be introduced in person before the show begins
  • The running time is 1 hour
