Mirabelle and Tallulah Haddon first met via the womb. They grew up within the legendary and subversive live art salon, Home Live Art. Performance artists caked in blood, bathing in milk & nursing dead pigs was normalised in the domestic space from a young age.

In turn this instilled a deep curiosity in unconventional art spaces, collaboration and expanded practice.

The two share a mutual understanding of performance informed by their upbringing and personal practices, spanning a range of mediums. Tallulah’s study of fine art and cinema combined with Mirabelle’s study of contemporary dance and performance continues to generate their rich and hybrid work.

Tallulah’s work Scene 1 #2 is an expanded cinema experience, taking place in a beautiful garden, a love story between a gardener and their cannibal lover unfolds. Expect blood, guts, and strange moments of deathly connection. An enigmatic performance by Talluah and Mirabelle Haddon is accompanied by Mildred Płodowska’s evocative camera work. Alongside a rich, unnerving musical score that calls you to peer through the crevices and cracks of a secret ecosystem.

We continue into a new world created by Mirabelle and her collaborators, Luella Rebbeck and Jemima Colin, as they bring us back the human form and its experiential knowledge.

They explore the materiality of ice, its transference and negotiation with the warm and sometimes hot moving body. Working horizontally, the process focusses on somatic and sensorial knowledge. Decentring traditional ways of making and the spectacle. Finding collective arrival. Evolving a relationship with material that focusses on intimacy, play and discovery.

Following the success of the inaugural artist takeover last year, Summer in The Ditch returns to showcase a dynamic mix of camp, queer, and cult work in our basement space.

With experimental new work, and rough and ready sessions from musicians, artists, poets and performers, anything can happen and the unexpected is always welcome.
