Did you know we are a charity? Since its opening in 1866, Shoreditch Town Hall has witnessed everything from Victorian reform and Sylvia Pankhurst’s activism, to vibrant boxing matches, and the electrifying Whirl-Y-Gigs in the 90s. For centuries, mystics, prophets and holy men have traversed the lands in search of enlightenment. For one night only, this pilgrim is going to walk around Shoreditch Town Hall with a tent.
For 40 days and 40 nights, Jesus asked “WHY?” For 60 minutes, this guy asks: “WHERE… is the nearest exit?”
In this experimental hour is a voyage into the absurd. It is a deep calling to pack a bag, trust our guts and leave this rotting medieval town (read: London) and get lost. Get found. Get lost again. Call your mum.
Stinky Little Pilgrim is part reckoning, part ritual, part prayer. Or none of the above. We’ll find out together.
Join us on this hero’s journey into the Great Unknown as award-winning clown and theatre-maker Riss Obolensky returns to Summer in The Ditch, for this foolish exploration of how we find meaning in crisis.

We'll be hosting an Open Mic on Saturday 11 July in our bar to celebrate the opening week of Summer in The Ditch 2026. If you want to try out some quick material, sing a ballad or show us your close up magic skills, then pop by with your tap shoes. MC'd by our very own Helen Highwater. 8.30pm - 9pm, booking isn't required, just turn up.

Following the success of our annual artist takeover, Summer in The Ditch returns for a third year to showcase a dynamic mix of camp, queer, and cult work in our basement space.
With experimental new work, and rough and ready sessions from artists, ventriloquists, singers and performers, anything can happen and the unexpected is always welcome.

All performances will be relaxed: audiences are allowed to move around, make noise and leave the room. Latecomers will be admitted.

Riss Obolensky is a clown and theatre-maker with a background in physical comedy, bouffon, clown and fooling. Their solo show Healing King Herod reached critical acclaim at its Underbelly run in Edinburgh, following its sell out run at VAULT Festival. It returned to Soho Theatre for another sellout run in March 2025. Their second show, Avrilganger, was programmed at Shoreditch Town Hall as part of Summer in the Ditch 2025.
