"TalkShow captures a frantic, timely sense of lives unravelling and established systems in collapse – from the ecological to the economic and the deeply personal." - The Stage
We live in an increasingly divided world, but if there is one thing that can connect us all, it’s a televised charity special.
Jennifer, our beloved Telethon host, dreams of uniting the nation behind a noble cause, Comic Relief-style. Special guests, prizes and oddball feats of endurance are planned, but she soon discovers that it’s hard enough to unite the studio, let alone the whole country.
In a darkly humorous exploration of public morality, right and wrong, and our divisive tendencies, TalkShow (formerly TOOT) invites you to join the studio audience as this Telethon veers wildly off the rails.
"Exposes the dark world of big charities and the hopelessness felt by most people... original and amusing" - North West End
Telethon is an unpredictable and entertaining show that features some voluntary interaction between you and your 3 hosts. Be prepared for something playful, exciting and a bit different that will leave questioning what just happened.
Telethon features integrated captioning and moments of integrated BSL interpretation/translation. Almost all of Telethon is captioned, using creative captioning as part of the video design. There are a few moments of audience interaction in the piece too, these are interpreted by a performer onstage, who uses BSL as part of their character. For more information, please click here.
The performance of Telethon on Monday 4th April will be presented with distanced seating. This means we will be leaving a one-seat gap between each audience member to allow extra space. Though seating is unallocated, we will endeavour to seat groups near each other.
Can't make it in person? Telethon will also be livestreamed on Wed 6 & Thu 7 April so you can view it digitally. For more information and to book tickets, visit theatrical.solutions
TalkShow (formerly TOOT) creates and delivers live performance, participatory projects and work for digital platforms where the audience has a role to play. Their work flips modern fears and anxieties into collective experiences, often taking a familiar setting (a focus group, a classroom, a TV studio) and transforming it to reveal something new.
Commissioned by Shoreditch Town Hall. Developed with The Lowry. Supported by The National Lottery through Arts Council England, Cockayne - Grants for the Arts and The London Community Foundation.
We will be taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of everyone in the building, and have several Covid-19 Safety Measures in place, which you can find here.
