Join Theatre Re for Beginnings - their Week Long Intensive, designed for professional and semi-professional performers.

In post show discussions, we are often asked, where do we start and what comes first - movement or music?

In this one-week intensive we will take participants through the beginnings of our unique process of making visually striking theatre with original live music. We will share how the work starts and how it evolves. Throughout the week we will train and play as an ensemble and, for the first time, we will devise work with music being composed live in the room.

Participants will learn how to uncover and play with physical details to enhance their performance skills, develop new material, and push the boundaries of what theatre, without a playwright, can do. They will also learn how to respond to a live musician discovering the balance of how to both lean into, and challenge the music.

Each day will begin with physical conditioning and will then progress towards training and technique, culminating in the opportunity to devise a short presentation true to the Theatre Re process

This 5-day workshop is designed for professional and semi-professional performers, actors and dancers as well as visual artists, students and recent graduates aged 18+.

Please note: When booking, only the first day of the workshop series will appear on our booking page and on your ticket. However, your are booking for a full week, and your ticket will grant access to all five days.

About Theatre Re

Theatre Re excels at transforming small, intimate stories into whirling, viscerally physical extravagance.” - What’s On Stage

Theatre Re are one of the UK’s leading visual theatre companies. Our work combines original live music with striking visual performance to create world class, deeply moving non-verbal productions about universal human challenges and the fragility of life. We engage with audiences locally, nationally and internationally to create, share and promote life-changing theatre that is both inventive and accessible through cross-arts and cross-sector collaboration.

We are an artist-led company based at The Point in Eastleigh with a strong 13-year track record: six mid-scale productions, extensive touring in the UK (84 venues in 50 cities) and internationally (16 countries across 3 continents) - including a Broadway transfer, international licensing of our repertoire and sold-out runs at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, the Cerventino Festival (Mexico), and London International Mime Festival.

Our training programme is in high demand across the world with long-term partners such the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Partnerships with community organisations throughout the creation process and while on tour are central to our work.
