Shoreditch Town Hall is thrilled to be continuing the Made in Shoreditch: Artist Workspace initiative, further supporting artist development and the creation of new live performance.

Over 1000 free workspace slots per year are be available to artists at Shoreditch Town Hall. Artists can book a desk for a day or week at a time, benefiting from a dedicated and safe communal working environment, interaction with other artists, and advice sessions with Town Hall staff.

Artist Workspace FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can use workspace at Shoreditch Town Hall, and what for?

Any artist, creative or administrator of any discipline or art form can use workspace at Shoreditch Town Hall. You do not need to have an existing relationship with the organisation.

Workspaces are available for administrative and desk-based work only, i.e. playwriting, design drawing, production planning, writing funding applications, project proposal and/or tour planning, marketing preparations, and so on. The initiative is not intended to provide studio space for practical exploration or making.

When is the workspace available?
Between 10am - 6pm, Monday - Friday.

How many desks are available?
Up to 6 desks will be available at any given time.

What comes with artist workspace?
You will be allocated a desk, access to a 13amp plug socket, and free WiFi. And free tea and coffee!

Can I do printing whilst using workspace?
Yes, you will be able to do some printing. 20 double-sided sheets of black and white A4 printing will be given free of charge (for the entirety of your booking, not per day). After that, printing will be charged at 5p per black and white A4 side and 10p per colour A4 side.

Can I have post delivered to Shoreditch Town Hall?
Within reason, letters and small packages can be delivered to Shoreditch Town Hall in advance of your workspace booking. Post should be addressed for the attention of your full name, and must be delivered between 10am – 6pm, Monday – Friday. Please do not send any large packages to us.

Will I have access to tea and coffee?
Yes, basic tea and coffee making facilities will be made available in the building, although artists will be expected to bring and clean their own crockery. A pay what you can money box will be in operation to help contribute towards this.

Will I have access to basic stationery?
Basic stationery will be available from Reception as and when requested, and within reason.

Is the workspace available in a private or communal space?
Desks are only available in communal working areas.

Is the room in which the workspace is offered accessible to wheelchair users?
Yes. The spaces are located on the ground floor of the building which is accessible via platform lift at the front of the building. Please note any access requirements on your booking form so that we can ensure all equipment is working.

How is Shoreditch Town Hall Covid-19 secure?
Shoreditch Town Hall has a range of Covid-19 Safety Measures in place which can be found here. Further information will be sent to artists in advance of their first booking.

How do I book an artist workspace at Shoreditch Town Hall?
Please complete this Booking Form and one of our team will get back to you as soon as possible. Please note that our team will only respond between the hours of 10am – 6pm, Monday – Friday.

It is possible to allocate desks at short notice, however we must have received your completed booking form by midday the day before the day your require a desk (or midday on Friday should you require space on a Monday).

How will a workspace be allocated?
Desks will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

What’s the minimum amount of workspace time I can book?
1 day (10am – 6pm).

What’s the maximum amount of workspace time I can book?
In order to ensure this initiative reaches and supports as many artists as possible, you can only book 5 days of the workspace at any one time. This can be used all at once across 1 working week, or spread across 5 separate days over a longer period of time.

There must be a minimum of 2 weeks in between desk space bookings, i.e. once 5 days of desk space is complete, 2 weeks must have passed before desk space can be used again.

Is there any possibility of booking space for team or company meetings?
Should there be availability, you can book the room as a meeting room for up to 6 artists for whom you will be responsible. This would count as your complete booking allowance for the period ie. You would not be able to book another group meeting until 2 intervening weeks have passed. This is to retain availability for other individuals to book.

What happens if I can no longer use my workspace booking?
You must give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you can no longer use the desk you’ve booked so we can allocate it to someone else.

What happens if I don’t turn up for my workspace booking?
We appreciate that things crop up and plans change, and so if you don’t turn up for your desk space booking then we will understand. However, if you re-book desk space and then don’t turn up a second time, you will no longer be able to book any further workspace at the Town Hall.

Do I have to pay anything to use workspace?
No, the initiative is free for artists to use. As noted above, a pay what you can money box will be in operation to support the purchasing of tea, coffee and milk etc., and any required printing beyond a certain amount will be charged for as well.

Is there any parking available at Shoreditch Town Hall?
Unfortunately there is no parking available at Shoreditch Town Hall.

Could I ever be banned from using artist workspace?
As noted above, we won’t process any further booking requests for you if you fail to turn up for your workspace booking on two occasions. You will also be prohibited from booking any further workspaces if you cause any vandalism, damage, theft, or unnecessary disruption, and/or are disrespectful to other artists, Town Hall staff and/or other users of the building.

Will I get to spend time with members of Shoreditch Town Hall staff?
Meetings with members of staff can be requested on your booking form in advance and will be scheduled based on availability. The Town Hall is a very small staff team and so capacity is limited, however we will always do our best to help and support.
