North London Chorus perform their debut concert at Shoreditch Town Hall alongside the Swiss Contrapunto Chor in a concert of music that explores the magic and mysticism of the forest at night.

The programme includes Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht, which sets Goethe’s poem of the same name as a secular cantata for soloists, choir and orchestra.  Since Zurich-based Contrapunto Chor specialise in 19th and 20th Century English music, the choirs have chosen Vaughan Williams’s rarely performed In Windsor Forest. They will also premiere Byzantium – A Choral Cantata by Contrapunto Chor's musical director Beat Dähler.

Under the direction of English National Opera’s Murray Hipkin, NLC have become known as an ambitious and committed amateur choir, and they are delighted to join with Contrapunto Chor in an anniversary year for both groups, celebrating their 40th season and their 30th respectively in two joint concerts –  Zurich on November 11 and London on November 25.  The choirs will be accompanied by the Meridian Sinfonia - a dynamic professional ensemble with whom NLC have had the pleasure of performing regularly.
