Celebrating Women’s History Month: Meet Fern Stoner

As a women-led venue, we are thrilled to be working with so many amazing women across our team and to be supporting a range of women-led works in our Spring programme this year. To celebrate Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting this team of fantastic women. Next up is Fern Stoner, a fantastic member of our board here at Shoreditch Town Hall.

Can you introduce yourself, and tell us a little about what you do for your job.

My name’s Fern. I am currently Director of Resources at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, responsible for a broad range of corporate services including Finance, HR and Estates. I am an accountant by background and have previously worked in a variety of commercial and not for profit organisations.

Why did you want to join Shoreditch Town Hall’s board and what do you enjoy about working with STH?

I have a passion for performing arts and providing access to the arts for everyone, and that’s very much part of our mission. I come away from our Board meetings inspired by the work that we are realising, very happy to help in whatever way I can, and I find it really energising to work with our creative and ambitious staff and volunteers.

Shoreditch Town Hall is also close to where I live, so as well as giving back to my local community, I get opportunities for my own personal development and learning.

What values of Shoreditch Town Hall do you feel connect with you the most?

Collaboration is a key value for me; working as a successful team and with partners outside of the organisation– to deliver the best possible outcome together.

What’s your favourite Shoreditch Town Hall show/event have you attended?

Woodhill, by LUNG Theatre and The North Wall was one of the most moving pieces of theatre I had seen in a long time. And I found an Open House tour led by a member of the team really interesting to understand the history of Shoreditch Town Hall and how it has been used over the decades by the local community for lots of different activities.
