Friends @ Shoreditch Town Hall: April 2022

At the start of each month we’re going to be highlighting #FriendsAtSTH – your round up of who is popping by our building during the month. April is shaping up to be a pretty busy one, here’s what we have going on…

Telethon by TalkShow
30 March – 14 April

Telethon, a new interactive show by TalkShow, took to our Council Chamber stage on 30 March and will run until 14 April. This unpredictable, entertaining and immersive show features integrated captioning and moments of integrated BSL interpretation/translation, and we’ve even scheduled a distanced seating performance on 4 April.

How we’re supporting: Telethon is a commission presented by Shoreditch Town Halll, developed with The Lowry, supported by The National Lottery through Arts Council England. You can book to see Telethon here.

Chance to Dance by Royal Opera House
6 April

Chance to Dance gives primary school children from across the country who do not have access to ballet and/or live in areas facing numerous disadvantages, their first opportunity to engage creatively with ballet, and connect with the inspirational repertory, choreographers and dancers of The Royal Ballet. On 6th April the young performers will be showing their families their progress at Shoreditch Town Hall with a performance.

How we’re supporting: The Royal Opera House are working with Shoreditch Town Hall on a hire basis. Find out more about the project here.

Marawa’s Majorettes
Weekly

Marawa’s Majorettes make everyone fall in love with hooping! They’ve become a leading fitness team and international performance troupe, teaching the world to hoop as they go. Every week the Majorettes rehearse at Shoreditch Town Hall.

How we’re supporting: Marawa’s Majorettes are working with Shoreditch Town Hall on a discounted hire basis as they are a Hackney company.

Rehearsals for Family Sex Show by ThisEgg
19 – 22 April

Family Sex Show by ThisEgg is a show for family audiences (children AND adults) about sex, pleasure and love. The show will put the good stuff at the forefront of the conversation & imagine a future where there is no shame. It will be a celebration of difference, equality and self-acceptance.

How we’re supporting: Shoreditch Town Hall has been a part of the development of the show, and continue to support the company with free rehearsal space.

Hoxton and Shoreditch Community Orchestra by Grand Union Orchestra
19 & 26 April

Grand Union Orchestra are putting together a Hoxton and Shoreditch Community Orchestra – you are invited to bring your instrument and come along to one of their open workshops starting this month. This is open to people with some musical experience aged 16 and over who live, work or study in Shoreditch or Hoxton.

How we’re supporting: Shoreditch Town Hall is partnering with Grand Union Orchestra to present this Community Orchestra. Find out more and join in here.

NewGens by HighRise Theatre
Weekly

NewGens is the youth associate company of HighRise Theatre. NewGens is a creative space for young multidisciplinary artists aged 16 – 27 to create, perform and get pathways into jobs and further education in the arts with multiple work placements, apprentice opportunities and support with audition technique. Every week HighRise Theatre and NewGens meet at Shoreditch Town Hall.

How we’re supporting: Space is given to HighRise Theatre for NewGens meetings and rehearsals free of charge by Shoreditch Town Hall.

Tsunagu/Connect Live by New Earth Theatre
23 – 30 April

Where exhibition meets performance, Tsunagu/Connect Live by New Earth Theatre is an immersive promenade adventure, inspired and informed by the stories of women who were born in Japan but who have settled in the UK since 1945. There will be a celebration night for the show, workshops surrounding the topics discussed available for bookers and interactive postcards created specially for the show.

How we’re supporting: Tsunagu/Connect Live has been made with support from Shoreditch Town Hall, Japan Society and Museum of London , funded by National Lottery Heritage FundArts Council England and The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation. Puddles by Tamara von Werthern
25 – 29 April

Puddles is new play by Tamara von Werthern, directed by Anna Marsland with music by Sam Hooper. At the end of the month the company will be holding rehearsals followed by a sharing of their work.

How we’re supporting: Shoreditch Town Hall are providing space for rehearsals free of charge to support the development of Puddles.

Monthly Training Classes with Theatre Re
24 April

Occurring monthly since September 2021, Theatre Re‘s Sunday professional classes aim to support professional, semi-professional, recent graduates and performers-in-training in their regular practice with monthly day-long training sessions with a community of like-minded creatives – Led by Theatre Re Director Guillaume Pigé and other members of the company.

Town Hall Tea Dance
25 April

A Shoreditch Town Hall classic – once a month we invite you to join us for a cuppa, a slice of cake and to relive those Tea Dance memories in our magnificent Assembly Hall. New dancers, group parties and all ages are welcome, and a Beginners’ Dance Class led by former world champion, Raymond Root takes place before every dance.
